A dream came true…
When on 29th December, I was invited to sing with the worldclass saxophonist Renato d’Aiello and his band at his Acoustic Jazz event Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. I met some wonderful singers and musicians that night, including Richard Shelton (who sang a wonderful swing set), Luna Cohen (whose Brazilian melodies were mesmerising), Deelee Dubé (a very soulful diva) and the band who were very welcoming and sparkled with intuitive musicality: Christian Vaughan (piano), Steve Rose (double bass) and Emiliano Caroselli (drums). Renato D’Aiello spiced up ‘Love me or leave me’ with an exquisite sax solo – his fluency and freedom on stage is really something to see.
I was joined by friends and family, and with such a strong line-up that night, the house was packed. After the first song, the applause from the audience was totally deafening – what a wonderful warm welcome to the stage! It was an amazing night – I felt honoured and privileged to be there alongside such outstanding musicians and in front of such an appreciative audience. It really was a wonderful way to end 2014.
